Increasing changes in the climate, dwindling resources, and rising energy costs as well as stricter government regulations are urgent drivers to drastically reduce energy demand and greenhouse gas emissions. Growing consciousness of our environmental responsibilities also adds moral pressure for energy savings. Today, about 40% of all primary energy consumption is from working buildings. This consumption includes heating, hot water production, cooling, ventilation, lighting, and the necessary electronic equipment.

Energy Drivers

In the EU, the introduction of the EPBD (Energy Performance Building Directive) set in place a key element in improving the energy efficiency of buildings. A series of EU standards have been issued based on this directive for designing, installing
and inspecting heating, hot water, cooling, ventilation and air conditioning plants as well as lighting. Moreover, the EuP Directive (Directive for Energy using  Products) defines ecological criteria (energy consumption, emissions, recycling) for energy-operated products. This impacts on components that generate,  consume, monitor and measure energy. For HVAC plants, these include boilers, heat pumps, chillers, pumps, fans, among others.
